Convenient, inexpensive way to try out the higher-grade vac bags to compare/contrast with what you’re currently using. I was specifically interested in the mylar foil bags & rolls that are FoodSaver compatible, so I added a note to the order mentioning that and that it would be cool if there was perhaps a sample pack that included some of that bag material for hands-on testing. Consumer vac-seal machine compatible, textured mylar-foil bags are like those stories your best friend’s brother-in-law tells about being at a house party where for like 15 minutes sometime after midnite Bill Murray shows up and plays drums with the band. You really, really want to believe it, but c’mon, seriously, what are the chances. Right?!
So when my sample pack arrived and had 2x pint-sized (6×10) mylar foil bags I was ecstatic!! There they were. IN MY HANDS. crazy! so I totally overlooked the fact that There was only 1 – 8×12 normal bag instead of 2 in the pack. I don’t know if that was intentional or an accident or what, but I’ll take that trade ALL DAY LONG!
Bags are excellent quality, thicker than the material Im currently using. I believe thicker generally equals better. Better puncture resistance, better oxygen barrier, longer lasting if you’re inclined to wash and re-use them. The mylar foil bags were great, not as thick as the regular poly bags but that’s actually good since I need them to seal in my consumer grade vac-seal machine. I’ve had some silvery-grey material in the past, and I think it was some Seal ‘n’Save branded mylar material, although it wasn’t shiny foil. However I had issues with it because it was too thick. I would say >=5 mils. I could only get a single good seal on it by take extra care and sealing it multiple times. All the other seals would pull apart by hand if you tried. SOOOOO, the moral of the story is that the mylar-foil material that I received as a bonus in my sample pack from Vacuum Sealers Unlimited, merely by mentioning it in a note on my order did NOT have that issue. It worked GREAT! It vacuumed easily and sealed completely in my consumer vac-seal machine, FLAWLESS VICTORY!!
I will certainly be back to place orders for those specifically and for other useful and fairly-priced items offered here. I wish that I could order another sample kit in the meantime, to have a few more pieces of that material as well as the other included excellent quality, regular clear poly bags. Tried the Ultra bags for the first time. Could not be more pleased. Heavy duty, sealed well, and great prices. I would recommend these and will be ordering more.
